October 2009 - Guide to Wine 2010, Rui Falcao, Portugal
"Monte do Pintor became with the change of ownership, presenting today structured wine but elegant, powerful but balanced, with its own personality and originality that deserves praise. I liked especially the Escultor, a huge wine in amplitude and size, which can escape the stereotype of ripe fruit, sugar, alcohol and excessive, to present a profile more herbaceous but sufficiently improved. " Escultor 2006 Red wine, "Red color Retinta dense and concentrated. Impressed by the breadth and size, the vehemence of the herbaceous sensations that the prevalence of caste Trincadeira not others. Vigorous but always restrained, powerful, this profile provides a sculptor more than the usual crop, with a faint trace of verdure, a monumental quite different from traditional power and extraction of Alentejo wines. It is a red guard who can leave the rest of the cellar for many years. "

.. The Sociedade Agrícola da Sossega in Arraiolos is the smallest wineproducer in Alentejo, with an area of 12 hectares of vineyard. So, one can say that this is the "Chateau Petrus" of Alentejo. This producer has only released quality wines, producing the brand Monte do Pintor since 1995. In special years produces the Monte do Pintor RESERVA.

January 2005 - GUIDE FOR 2005 PORTUGUESE and INTERNATIONAL WINES - The 5 to 8
Monte do Pintor Reserva 2001.Note 16,5. Rui Falcão. Monte do Pintor Reserva is a new bet from this producer from Arraiolos, a bet that in this year of 2001 is limited to 9900 bottles. Shows intense garnet colour, density and mean concentration, without being to much different from Monte do Pintor “normal” of the same vintage. Large, mature, notes of fruity compotes and ripe fruit. Cherry, tomato, “crème de cassis” compote, plum sweet, and at times even quince jelly, one can see that the intention was to make a wine with a very fashionable profile, with many fans.
Fortunately, the wine is not confined to ripe fruit, still finding menthol, mild smoked, aniseed touches and pleasant notes of leader that settle very well. Finally, one can guess cedar, sandalwood and a light touch of clove.
Rich in the mouth, without being chewed or pasty is a powerful and vigorous wine. Nothing of violence, the tannins are well framed with the existence of residual sugar that “rounds” and softens it. It’s a wine that can have an international profile, without losing sight of its Alentejo identity, something that seems to be a very smart bet. Long and soft after taste, is clearly a wine that represents the Alentejo style.
Monte do Pintor 2001
Tasting Note 16. Rui Falcão. Red garnet colour, red edges and average density, this is how Monte do Pintor presents it in the chromatic evaluation. The nose, right at the prelude, starts with notes of toasting, to much coffee, some caramel and even some smoke. Within minutes these aromas disappear, only remaining polite, the gentle aroma of toasting. But what really characterizes this red from Arraiolos is the huge concentration of blackberry, blueberry and cassis aromas, in a very unusual case of three aromatic berries.
The surround is warm, languid, very fragrant, suggesting a plateau which invites to a soft lethargic indolence. A very interesting combination that only sins for the slight excess of alcohol at the end.
The palate confirms exactly the presage transmitted by the aromas, its easy, enjoyable, without sharp edges or peaks, just plains, here and there marked by gentle undulations. Solid and respectable tannins, smooth without being loose, this red is very well designed, pleasant and delightful. One can feel a nice touch of milk chocolate in the after taste, in a long and wide end. It’s a very interesting wine that seems to confirm the suitability of the area of Igrejinha for quality wines.

Monte do Pintor red 2000. Tasted in 2003. Tasting Note 6. Dense colour and good concentration on the nose without understanding the ripe fruit. More evident on the palate, its a full and round red, with a strong chemical component that doesn’t make the taste easy.
