October 2004 – REVISTA DE VINHOS, Portugal
MONTE DO PINTOR RESERVA 2001
– Special Wine of Clube Grande EscolhaThis is the first RESERVA of a trademark that has always produced small quantities with great quality. On the region of Arraiolos, being benefited by a gentle slope, this wine, which resulted on 9900 bottles, was made out of the grape varieties Trincadeira e Aragonez, and matured on French oak barrels Allier .
It is far away from the palette of aromas that now have become vulgar. On the contrary, it shows a certain aromatic austerity, which only ennobles it, with good vegetal and f rui ty notes, but without great exuberance. It shows itself solid and well structured, with balsamic and spicy notes and a light smoke revealing the presence of oak with balance. A modern Alentejo wine, elegant and harmonious, with a great acidic balance, which prolongs the final taste.

MONTE DO PINTOR RESERVA 2001
– This is the first Reserva from this trademark and was made with a blend of the varieties Trincadeira and Aragonez. It shows a certain aromatic authority, which only dignify it, with good vegetal and f rui ty notes, but without great exuberance. It shows itself solid and well structured, with balsamic and spicy notes and light smoke revealing the presence of oak with balance. A modern Alentejo wine, elegant and harmonious, with a great acidic balance, which prolongs the final taste.

MONTE DO PINTOR 2001
Garnet red colour, red boards and average density, this is how this Monte do Pintor shows itself on the chromatic evaluation. The aroma, at the very beginning, wakes up indicating roasting signs, lots of coffee, some caramel and even some smoke. In a few minutes these aromas disappear, maintaining only, in a very educated way, the mild roasting note. But what really characterises this red from Arraiolos is the remarkable concentration of aromas of blackberries, myrtle and cassis, in a very unusual aromatic concentration based on these three berry f rui ts.

This wine is involving, warm, languid, very perfumed, suggesting a plain which invites to a mild lethargic indolence. A very interesting match that only sins through the light excess of alcohol which is noticeable at the end of the aroma.

On the taste confirms exactly the presage transmitted by the aromas, it is easy, joyful, without corners or cutting picks, only plains, here and there marked by mild undulations. Solid and respectable tannins, mild without being slack, this red wine is very well designed, pleasant and delightful. One can feel the interesting milk chocolate touch on the after taste, in a long and wide final. This is a very interesting wine that seems to confirm the ability of the region of Igrejinha to produce quality wines.
Classification: 16 out of 20

MONTE DO PINTOR RESERVA 2001 –
“… among the red wines that were proposed, this harmonious red with full aroma was in the limelight, with a great complexity and finesse. The after taste is rich and long…It is worthwhile storing it as it was produced in a numbered and limited series. The label is from the sculptor João Cutileiro.

Interview to the famous architect from São Paulo Ruy Ohtake – with the title THE ARCHITECT GOURMET
“…What do you mostly like to drink? I appreciate a good full bodied wine. I like the Italian Barolo, Côte du Rhone from France and some Portuguese wines like Monte do Pintor , a red wine from Alentejo…”

The best wines from Portugal
“…This producer put his first harvest on the market on 1995 with the brand Monte do Pintor . Although the blameless quality this wine caught one's eye because of the beauty of its label, which is from the responsibility of the master João Cutileiro. Since then the company grew, the wine became more well known and its appreciators turned out to be much more. If you pass by Igrejinha, don't forget to visit this wine producer, integrated on the historical wine route from Alentejo.

MONTE DO PINTOR 2000
– “ One of the most tasty wines of Portugal , made of the grape varieties Trincadeira, Aragonez e Piriquita, by the winemakers of Fundação Eugénio de Almeida. Intensive aroma of red f rui ts – cherries and raspberries – is its registered trademark.”

MONTE DO PINTOR 2000 –
“This wine was made of the varieties Trincadeira and Aragonês. It is a red wine with great intensity of colour and warm aroma, remembering dried grapes and jam. On the taste it is full, with silky tannins and rich flavours of chocolate and ripped f rui ts, in an elegant assemblage and a long final.”
Final Note: 17,5 (Very high quality wine with potential)

A minha selecção - João Afonso ANUÁRIO VINHOS 2003, Portugal
MONTE DO PINTOR 1999 – We still can find the kind of very ripe, dried grapes on this wine, notes of dried straw, pine-needle, some notes of liquor. On the taste it shows a very good structure, thick and ripe tannins, average concentration, in a sober style without exaggeration of f rui t notes, spice well integrated in a long persisting finish, opening like a fan.
Final Note: 17 (Very good, with special qualities, worthy of recommendation)

Vinhos de Portugal 2003 - João Paulo Martins, Portugal
MONTE DO PINTOR 1997
– Tasted on 2002.
This wine was made of Trincadeira, Aragonês e Piriquita. It has an aroma profile that combines very ripe f rui t with leather notes and suggestions of oak notes, but without a final result of great fineness. The final taste shows a vigorous red but not heavy, with well balanced tannins. For the ones that enjoy this style it is a good example.
Final Note: 5 out of 8 (Good+)

PORTUGUESE TABLE WINES - Giles MacDonogh (2001)
MONTE DO PINTOR” (the painter's farm) near Évora is vinified by the same Dr. Rosário who lends his skills to Pera-Manca. It is owned by Luis Sáragga Leal, who has a modest 12 ha estate. It is notably good value for a dark staining wine with a full morello cherry taste. “ Page 132

February 2001 – Journal EXPRESSO, Portugal
“…… The wines from Alentejo are unquestionably a small-big success story. First of all because it is a success which is composed by many successes. I just want to refer the consecrated cases – and, even though, assuming the injustice of forgetting some of them – I would say that the individual successes, when added, contributed to the great regional success. The new initiatives or the relaunch of old trademarks contributed to this success. In the first place are Tapada de Coelheiros, Monte do Pintor , Portugal Ramos, Esporão, Roque Vale and a good dozen of other more, which are arriving at the front….” Article of Henrique Granadeiro.

January 2001 – REVISTA GULA, Brazil
MONTE DO PINTOR 1998
– “This wine was elaborated with a blend of the varieties Trincadeira, Aragonês and Piriquita. The result is harmonious, with intense ruby colour and an exuberance of red f rui ts aromas, like cherries and raspberries. It matures twelve months in oak barrels and another ten months in the bottle.”

A minha selecção - João Afonso - ANUÁRIO VINHOS 2001 , Portugal
MONTE DO PINTOR 1997 – “The wine has a good aromatic base but a roasted note, almost burned, and a strange resin, probably from the oak where it matures. The f rui t is red, very ripe and powerful. The generosity of the f rui t improves the wine tasting. Full and with a great volume of f rui ts, good and ripe tannins and considerably extract. The only problem is the resin.”
Final Note: 16 (Good Quality)

Dezember 2000 – UM PASSEIO PELOS VINHOS PORTUGUESES (An excursion through the portuguese wines), Ricardo Malheiros Fiúza - …”From the Alentejo wine region also deserves evidence MONTE DO PINTOR , a great wine from the regional wine-cellar of sossego (quietness), that I drink here in Belo Horizonte at the restaurant “Vecchio Sogno”.

July 2000 – REVISTA GULA ( Brazil )
Monte do Pintor 1997 – “The varieties Trincadeira, Aragonês and Piriquita prevail on its assemblage”. From this harvest were only produced 14.750 bottles. It has an intense ruby colour and an exuberance of red f rui ts aromas.”

June 2000 – Gastronomy and Wines from Alentejo, Alfredo Saramago, Joaquim Madeira, Clara Roque Vale, Manuel Fialho
“In 1993 the wine-cellar of Monte do Pintor started working, a building situated close to Igrejinha, district of Arraiolos. From this harvest were produced only 2628 bottles of wine. The wine estate belongs to the company Sociedade Agrícola da Sossega, Lda. Despite its few years of existence, it already went through big enlarging measures , in order to have the required capacity for the transformation of the production coming from the 12 ha vineyards owned by the company.

June 2000 – REVISTA DE VINHOS, Portugal
MONTE DO PINTOR 1997
Classification: 17,5 (very good wine of great category and potential)

May 2000 – REVISTA DE VINHOS, Portugal
MONTE DO PINTOR 1997
– “We tasted the most recent harvest of Monte do Pintor , the harvest 1997, a wine elaborated with the varieties Trincadeira, Aragonês and Piriquita. At the nose he shows himself very mature, with intense notes of red plums, dry f rui ts and chocolate, involved on a light vanilla from the oak. The oak is at the right level, without exaggeration, showing a great, elegant and seducing wine. High quality tannins and a good acidic balance assure him some years on wine-cellar.
Classification: 17,5 - purchase recommendation for your cellar (photography with great notability)

May 2000 – VINHO Magazine n° 9, Brazil
Monte do Pintor 1997

Monte do Pintor 1997
– Why don't you buy a case at one hand. This is a great wine, with a persistent taste and has a delicious raspberry aroma.” (with detached photograph)

September 1999 – REVISTA GULA, Brazil
Monte do Pintor 1996 – Six wines to drink now
“After opening the bottle of the Portuguese red wine Monte do Pintor , the wine invaded the glass with strength and health. At the beginning he showed a light f rui ty aroma. The most interesting thing was its evolution during the tasting. Elegant and, in a certain way, surprising, the canvas of Monte do Pintor was being painted with beautiful colours by the evolution of its aromas, that seemed to be playing between f rui ty jam and raspberry jelly… “The other five: Jackson Estate 1998 – New Zeeland, Riul Refosco Dal Pedúnculo Rosso 1995 – Italy, Collezione De Marchi Syrah 1994 – Italy, Château de La Croix 1994 – France and Clos Windsbuhl Riesling 1989 – Alsace, France.

August 1999 – REVISTA PLAYBOY, Brazil
Monte do Pintor 1996 – “BALCÃO DOS ESPÍRITOS
– New labels for your cellar: there are two new surprises that have just arrived from the wine world. From Alentejo, Portugal , arrived the Monte do Pintor (on the photograph), red wine with good body and small production. With oak aromas and red f rui ts…” The other mencioned wine was Châteaux Los Boldos from Chile .

April 1999 – REVISTA DE VINHOS, Portugal
Monte do Pintor 1996
– « We recommend the Monte do Pintor 1996, a beautiful wine and different on its dry wild f rui ts like black currant and goose berries, followed by some oak notes where the wine remained. On the mouth it shows a great dryness, good ripped f rui ts, very correct acidic balance in a different, wise and seducing whole.”
Tasting Note: Very Good

February 1999 – A CAPITAL, Portugal
Monte do Pintor :
a little smell of Pêra Manca
Monte do Pintor 1996 – “Perhaps inspired on the original line of Cutileiro, a consecrated artist that draw the label of MONTE DO PINTOR , the responsible enologist team for the wines of the wine estate Fundação Eugénio de Almeida (Eng. Colaço do Rosário e Francisco Pimenta) hit the nail on the head of the harvest 1996, clearly better than the one of the year before. These are the enologists that designed the mythical Pêra Manca and the popular Cartuxa, quality wines that are very difficult to find on the market and are almost object of unrestrained speculation. It is so that the MONTE DO PINTOR has a little smell of Pêra Manca… On the sensorial tasting he revelled a very lively red colour and some concentration, not so intense on the nose, only predominating aromas of dry f rui ts and spice. Some primary aromas were noted; in taste it is more complex, needs previous oxidation to show itself; full bodied, with good tannins, it has some acidity which prolongs its life; the final taste is long and persistent – it is perhaps his most remarkable characteristic. Classification: 88 points out of 100.

February 1999 – EVASÕES, Portugal
MONTE DO PINTOR 1996 – “ Bárbara Guimarães is a guest of Alfredo Saramago…Two indescribable pleasures “…Bárbara and I were delighted with the suggestions that were accompanied since the beginning, with the wine we chose together, a red wine MONTE DO PINTOR 1996 . Bárbara liked the wine and the name ………”We started a trip without destiny, toasting when the MONTE DO PINTOR arrived, a name and a taste that we felt like a liquid from the gods, we longed for Paris, Reggiani, remembering the symbols of Piaff…”

May 1997 – REVISTA DE VINHOS, Portugal
MONTE DO PINTOR 1994
– “This wine was made out of the varieties Trincadeira, Aragonês e Piriquita. It has a great aromatic intensity, somehow floral, not very usual in this region. He is round on the taste, despite the tannins and some acidity (volatile –seemed to us a little high) on the after taste. Good +

May 1997 , PÚBLICA, Portugal
MONTE DO PINTOR 94
–“…produced by Luis Sáragga Leal, on four ha of his wine estate Monte do Pintor , planted only with red varieties: Trincadeira and Piriquita, plus Aragonez, Moreto, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Caiada. Notice that the bottle was very well dressed by João Cutileiro. The wine is very good: aromas remembering ripe and healthy grapes, well married with the new oak, some complexity and already some signs of bottle stage, smoothly attack, well balanced by the acidity level and the presence of round tannins. The final taste is long and tasty. He needs some structure, certainly because of being made from grapes of new vineyards. When the grapes get older, this red wine, which is already a real case, will be very serious.” David Lopes Ramos.
